Introducing the Parent Social Club!
💙 More Than a Swim Team. We’re a Family.
I grew up swimming for the Blue Dolfins, and some of my best memories are of our families spending time together at meets, potlucks, and around the pool. Forty-some years later, as head coach of the Winter Park branch, I’d love to make the Blue Dolfins experience just as memorable for you current parents.
That’s why we’re launching the Parent Social Club as a way to make all those hours at practices, swim meets, and travel a little more fun and connected.
And nope, this is NOT another big volunteer commitment. There are no required hours and no pressure. Maybe just grab coffee with another parent, join an occasional happy hour, welcome a new family, share an idea, or just get to know the people you see at the pool every day.
👉 This is simply about building friendships, team spirit, and a stronger Blue Dolfins community.
The Junior Group has already been doing a fantastic job with this, thanks to parents like Shaun Schlossmacher, Ryan Tindall, Pei-ling Roerig, and other awesome Junior group parents, so we thought we’d expand this model to the entire team!
After all… Flippers. Fins. Juniors. Seniors. Four training groups = One Blue Dolfins family.
We need your help to make this a success!
If you would like to be involved in some way, let us know. We’re looking for people to help organize parents in the different swim groups. If this sounds like fun to you, just fill out the form below. 👇
🤝 Dolfins Supporting Dolfins
We're also launching something else we think could grow into something pretty useful.
How many Blue Dolfins parents own a business? Perhaps you provide a professional service, sell real estate, take photographs, fix things, design things, teach things or do something another Dolfin family might someday need?
Probably a lot! So we've created the Blue Dolfins Families Business Directory — a place where our families can discover and support businesses owned or operated by other families within our team community.
If you're a Winter Park Blue Dolfins parent with a business or professional service, we'd love to have you in it.
And when you're looking for a local business or service, check the directory first. Whenever we can, let's support the people who spend their evenings and weekends sitting on the same pool deck we do.
⛈️ Rainy Season is Here: What You Need to Know
Florida rainy season is officially upon us and we’ve been getting lots of questions about practice!
A little rain doesn't stop the Blue Dolfins, but afternoon weather can sometimes require us to make quick adjustments.
Here are three things every Dolfin family should know:
📱 1. Check GroupMe for last-minute updates.
When weather affects practice, coaches will use your group's GroupMe to communicate schedule changes and important updates. On questionable weather days, please check GroupMe before heading to the pool — and keep an eye on it as practice time approaches.
🌧️ 2. Rain doesn't cancel swimming — lightning does.
Yes, we swim in the rain! Practice continues during ordinary rainfall as long as conditions are safe. When lightning is detected, however, swimmers must leave the water. The City maintains a weather warning system at the facility, and our coaches follow those alerts to determine when swimmers need to clear the pool and when it is safe to return.
⚡️3. A lightning delay doesn't have to mean lost practice time.
We've added a mini projector so coaches can continue working with swimmers while everyone is safely out of the water. During weather delays, we can use that time for swim videos, race analysis, technique instruction and other educational activities.
📅 Never Miss What’s Coming Up!
We’ve also created a new Team Calendar to make it easier to keep up with upcoming swim meets, mini meets, team gatherings and special events — all in one place.
You can even share the individual events directly to your own Google Calendar.
Bookmark it and check back often — we’ll continue adding events throughout the season!
🐬 Watch for Our New “Sunday Social” Emails!
Finally, be on the lookout for our new Sunday Social emails! These will be all about the families behind the swimmers — sharing team news and celebrations, giving tips to support a healthy swimmers, and keeping everyone connected both in and out of the pool.
Because the Blue Dolfins are more than a swim team — we’re a family! Thank you for being a part of ours!
