Sunday Social Post: September 13th
Happy Sunday, Dolfins families! 🐬
For this week’s Sunday Social, I’ve got a few easy tips for our swimmers and a few for you grown-ups, too. Be sure to read to the end… for a some great thoughts from the mom of a 9-time Olympic Gold Medalist!
Before we get to it, though, as a reminder we have been revamping our website. Please look around and familiarize yourself with the different areas, especially our New Parent Guide if you are new to the swim team. And we’ve moved the Team Calendar, so be sure to bookmark it.
💧 Help Your Swimmer Hydrate Before They’re Thirsty
Swimmers may not notice how much fluid they’re losing during practice, so encourage them to drink water throughout the day rather than trying to catch up right before getting in the pool. It’s still hot out there, so drink up!
🍌 Easy Snack idea: Keep Recovery Simple
As a post-practice snack for your swimmer, think of one with both carbohydrates and protein. And, you can even find some snacks are easy to make and are car-safe:
Banana with peanut butter,
Greek yogurt and fruit,
Apple slices and cheese,
Chocolate milk, or
Hummus and pretzels.
🚶 For you parents: Take a Walk While They Swim
If you’re spending an hour sitting at the pool during practice, consider turning even 15–20 minutes of that time into a walk. You don’t need a gym, special clothes, or a complicated workout plan. A short walk down and back on the Cady Way Trail can add up quickly over the course of a week.
Sometimes the healthiest habits are the ones we can fit into time we’re already spending somewhere.
❓How do you handle it when your child doesn’t want to go to practice?
This was the exact question my wife Bess and I posed to Christina Dressel, our long time friend and mom of not only three All-American swimmers but also 9-time Olympic Gold Medalist and World Record Holder Caeleb Dressel. Watch below:
Have a great week, Dolfins families!
